On July 25, 2012, Restore the Delta (restorethedelta.org) organized a demonstration to protest a new attempt to build a peripheral canal to drain northern California dry. Chief Caleen Sisk spoke (listen to her here) to the rally against the canal on the steps of the Capitol Building. We need to find ways to make an alliance like they have on the Klamath River that unites farmers, fishers, environmentalists, and tribes to develop an alternative to the disastrous policies of big agribusiness and their allies. Governor Brown (link to his news conference) thought his new proposed canal would end the water wars. It has reignited it instead.
